Dear CIRCA-PINTIG family, community partners, and friends,
Happy New Year and warmest greetings! We hope that you are all staying healthy, safe, and well.
By now you must have heard about the super-typhoon Odette that hit the Philippines in December 2021. The Visayas region was among the most devastated areas in the whole country. This only compounded the already dire conditions of the communities there that are still struggling with impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In partnership with the People’s Media Advocacy Asia – Center for People’s Media (PMAA-CPM), we are holding a virtual educational and fundraising event with a special focus on the environmental challenges in the Philippines and the need for solidarity and progressive action on climate justice now. This is part of our Monthly Beat series for 2022:
Date/Time: Jan 28th, 6 pm PT / 8 pm CT / 9 pm ET (USA) / Jan 29th, 10 am (Phils).
The topic of Climate Justice will be explored through music, poetry, and a live conversation among environmentalist, Wilson Fortaleza, Negros Oriental community organizer, Sylvio Dorig, and Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) Chair & cultural activist, Bibeth Orteza. A special guest performance by multi-awarded singer and songwriter, Noel Cabangon, will also be featured.
We are asking for your help in raising at least $2,500 for severely devastated communities in Negros Oriental and Cebu so that families can rebuild their homes and communities. A $50 donation will help at least one family in purchasing materials for repairs and basic necessities. But any amount will go a very long way in helping these families. Our minimum goal is to fund at least 50 families. But the more we raise, the more families we can assist. Our fundraising campaign starts now and will end on Sunday, Feb 20th, as we want to send the much-needed funds to these areas as soon as possible.
