Award-winning journalist Cate Cauguiran joined Chicago’s top news station, ABC 7, as a general assignment reporter in 2017.
As a member of the ABC 7 Eyewitness News Team, Cauguiran has covered important local stories including the tragic death of Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer, the arrest of a Northwestern professor wanted in the death of a Chicago man and a fire fighter who died while in the line of duty.
Prior to joining ABC 7, Cauguiran worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at KPIX-TV, the CBS station in San Francisco. During her tenure in San Francisco, she was awarded multiple Emmys for her reporting on the deadly warehouse fire in Oakland and for her coverage during Super Bowl 50. Before joining KPIX-TV, Cauguiran was a morning anchor in Medford, Oregon where she also worked as a reporter and producer.
She’s a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she double majored in journalism and international relations and got her master’s degree in communication management.
Cauguiran grew up in a military family on Marine Corps and Naval bases in Japan. Her father is a retired Senior Chief in the Navy.
Cauguiran currently volunteers her time with the Filipino American National Historical Society and Philippine American Cultural Foundation.
Her honors include multiple Emmy awards and later this year she will receive the Golden Legacy Award for her Outstanding Achievements in Journalism.
Cauguiran is getting married in January in her parents’ hometown in the Philippines and in her fiancé’s hometown of Madison, Wisconsin in the fall of 2019.
