A septuagenarian who believes that growing old is a blessing and a privilege, Gloria “Oyie” E. Mata lives
life in joyful retirement with family in the Philippines. Though she has the choice to be back to the US
and has intended to in June 2019, she is held put by Covid-19. She used to be Site Director at South East
Asia Center (Child Day Care •Broadway Ave.• 2002 -2009) and Part Owner/ Director of C.H.I.L.D Centre
(Children Holistic Integrated Learning and Development Center - a Day Care and a Preschool. Both
Centers are in Chicago, Illinois.
Writing is one of the things she engages herself in; mostly to chronicle her activities with Grade School,
HS and College classmates of Maryknoll in Lucena, Quezon and in Quezon City also with colleagues from
Maryknoll, Lipa , Batangas and Assumption College San Lorenzo Village Makati … to journal some
thoughts, insights, ideas and even articles which sometimes find their way to MegaScene.
Gloria is one who believes that everything happens for a reason, there is no coincidences and what is, is
meant to be. Furthermore, she always holds on to God’s promise in her favorite verse in Romans 8:28, “
Everything works well for the good of those who love Hi
